Reflecting on a New Year

Written by Lindsay Olver | January 17, 2020

To be completely honest, I am not a January new year resolution/goal setting person. I typically see my birthday as a time for reflection of the year ahead since that is the day that I begin my own personal revolution around the sun.

It makes sense that the new calendar year is a popular time to dive into goals, especially in our colder climate where a lot of time is physically spent inward already.

When thinking about goal setting and resolutions certain words come into my mind: gratitude, intention, unapologetic, and clarity.

While setting any kind of goal whether it is big or small, I think it is important to think of your intention behind it. Get really clear about what you want for yourself versus what you think you should be doing or what others think you should be doing. I also think it is ok for goals to be adjusted since nothing in life is a guarantee or permanent.

A small daily goal of mine is to find time to reflect on my privilege, practice gratitude and act with intent. An example from my day today involved the cold weather! It is so easy to complain about how cold and uncomfortable winter can be. I am grateful to be privileged enough to have a winter coat (actually more than one), a safe place to live, and the ability to make nourishing warm food for my belly.

Whatever your goals or resolutions may be now and throughout the year, I would like to extend my wish for you to be happy, safe, and healthy!
